The SOSS ladies basketball team capped an incredible 27-9 season by winning two and losing two in an exciting Provincial tournament held last week in Kamloops. Just making it there was a thrill for the players . A long 22 year wait since the girls from Southern Okanagan had been represented there, was over.
The opener had the Hornets matched up against #4 Seycove from North Vancouver, dropping a hard fought game 80-63. The feisty Hornets went on to meet the St. Thomas Aquinas, also from North Vancouver the next day. This game see-sawed back and forth and in the dying seconds two clutch shots put the Hornets in the win column, final score 75-70.
Friday’s action would see the private St. Michaels University School need to come from behind in the final minutes to oust the Oliver girls in a heart breaking 79-68 loss. Determined to finish strong and complete an already great tournament performance, the ladies played zone rivals from Summerland and finished in 11th place with a 63-56 victory.
For the departing 5 Sr’s , #4 Ashley McGinnis, #10 Emily Jentsch, #14 Jessa Kriesel, #7 Sumy Brar and #13 Rory Lodge it was a fantastic memory filled five seasons. And for the two grade 11’s, #15 Rav Sandhu and #12 Jazmine Grouette, as well as the two grade 10’s #11 Navi Mann and #8 Jasnoor Sidhu , they will form the nucleus of next years Hornets.
For the two retiring coaches Kevin Chase and Christopher Jentsch, we wish all the players the very best and for the last time from behind the bench cheer a loud, Go Hornets Go!!!, and thank everyone for your encouragement and support.
Thanks to Chris Jentsch for this
