Teagan Adams, a Grade 4 student from Osoyoos Elementary is an inspiring young boy, who’s going to Africa to build a school in Kenya with Free the Children.

Teagan has shared his message to classrooms, local PAC’s, the School Board, The Rotary Club, the Social Justice Film Society, and to Rose Valley Elementary during a whole school assembly. He starts his presentation by sharing that his hobbies are playing guitar, building Lego, climbing mountains and “changing the world.”

Last summer he started an organization called “The Giving Guys,” a group whose mandate is to raise enough money to build a school in Kenya Africa, where millions of children don’t get the opportunity to go to school. Teagan wants to change this bleak scenario.

Last June his mother gave their four children each $2 and challenged them to turn it into more money using their own creative ideas and talents then give that money to a charity. Teagan decided to set up a lemonade stand while his brother chose to perform a magic show. In addition to collecting bottles and returning them for money, they raised $1,800 just in the summer months. That figure has grown to $5900.00 now… 2/3 of the way to building a school for thousands of deserving kids!

Teagan wants to get other classes and schools involved in the project in hopes to inspire other children to reach out and help.

It costs about $9,000 to build a school in Kenya, and classrooms across Canada are doing just that through the “Early Entrepreneurs Experiment.”
