On January 29, 2012 at 7:18 am, Oliver RCMP received a report of a possible Impaired MVI approx 18km up Camp McKinney Rd towards Mt. Baldy. An on duty Argo employee observed a grey 2007 Silverado pick up registered to a company out of Surrey BC stuck in the ditch at that location. Police attendance resulted in contact with three occupants and observations that alcohol and speed relative to road conditions might have been contributing factors. Due to a loss of continuity and no actual witnesses to the event no charges are being sought. Minor non life threatening injuries were sustained by the occupants of the vehicle.
On January 31, 2012 an Oliver resident residing in the area of the 36000 Block of 99th Street reported that overnight someone had rummaged through his 1999 GMC pickup while it was parked at his residence. The complainant advised that some pocket change was stolen from the ash tray and the glove box had been opened.
On February 1st, 2012 an Oliver resident residing in the 38000 Block of 71st Street called the Oliver RCMP to report that at some point overnight the drivers side tires of her vehicle had been slashed. No witnesses or suspects have been identified in this event.
On February 2nd, 2012 RCMP were dispatched to Highway 97 in the area of Road 20 in Oliver, BC with regard to a single vehicle MVI involving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Police arrival resulted in contact with a 63 year old Oliver resident who stated that he was driving south towards Osoyoos when he lost control going around the corner and he hit a power pole. The driver of the vehicle was not injured however there was extensive damage to his vehicle and the Fortis pole. Speed relative to road conditions was a factor in this crash.
On February 2, 2012, at approximately 1146 hrs Oliver RCMP responded to a complaint of a vehicle over the embankment on Road 22, the 30400 block of 71st street Oliver, BC. On police arrival the extensively damaged vehicle was discovered to be unoccupied. Subsequent contact with the driver of the vehicle confirmed that the 28 year old Oliver resident was driving northbound on road 22 last night at approximately 0100 hrs when he hit what he perceived to be black ice and went over the embankment. The driver received a bruised right leg from the incident but required no medical attention. The driver was subsequently charged for failure to report the accident and driving too fast for road conditions.
On February 06, 2012 representatives of the Oliver Detachment RCMP had the privilege of being present at the Senkulmen Enterprise Park when Premier Clark and Solicitor General Bond announced that the new Okanagan Correctional Centre will be built on lands owned by the Osoyoos Indian Band. This announcement is representative of the efforts of Chief Clarence Louie and his team and the quality of the product that OIB continues to produce. The Oliver RCMP wishes to congratulate OIB on this opportunity which will with out doubt figure significantly in the future economic development of the South Okanagan Region.
