Built in 1905 by Percy Marks for the cowboy crowd, the BC Hotel had the first real saloon in the south. It was rebuilt in 1910 by David Riorden and it stayed a destination until the area went industrial in 1925. It passed through many hands as the Valley Hotel and provided lodging for CPR, CNR and packinghouse workers until Front Street began to develop in the late 60’s. It was finally purchased by Ron and Debbie Bell from Alberta in 1982, and after considerable renovations became Slack Alice’s entertainment bar. The Bells also opened Rossi’s Restaurant and Alice’s Deli. They operated the pub for 22 years and sold it to Tony Chang in 2004. written by Brian Wilson
