Grace Meeds

February 3, 1928 – January 21, 2012

 

On Saturday January 21, 2012, Mrs. Grace Iona Meeds of Oliver passed away peacefully at the McKinney Place Extended Care Unit at the age of 83 years. Grace will be fondly remembered by her loving family including children Cliff (Shirley), Virginia, Howard (Susan) and Gary (Anita); son-in-law Lance; her sisters Helen Cook and Bernice Salter (Pat); brother Keith Olson (Barb); thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother, Clarence; her father Oscar; her mother Erna; her husband Wayne; her daughter-in-law Elaine and her daughter Linda. Grace was born to Oscar and Erna Olson in Donalda, Alberta on February 3, 1928. By eight years old she was milking the cows. At ten years old she was helping with meals for the harvest workers and at other times, she and her brother Clarence would ride down into the coolee to check on the cattle. At twelve, she was driving horses pulling the hay wagon during harvest time. At thirteen, she was driving tractor for dad. It was lots of hard work but also many fun times. In 1945, the family moved to Oliver to take up orcharding. In 1946, Grace met Wayne and they married in 1947. In 1949, they moved to Island Way and seven acres bought from Wayne’s dad. She enjoyed family reunions at the farm and always had a place at the table and a bed for guests. Grace was very active in the United Church and previously the Legion. In later times she enjoyed cruises with her sister Helen. A “picnic” will be held at a later date.
