OTTAWA — A former spokesman with an environmental group in Vancouver has been fired for going public Tuesday with his allegation that Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office tried to intimidate an organization opposed to the proposed $5.5-billion Northern Gateway pipeline.
A Harper spokesman and the person who was allegedly threatened, Tides Canada chief executive Ross McMillan, both issued statements saying the allegation is inaccurate.
Andrew Frank issued an “open letter to Canadians,” and swore an affidavit, alleging that Harper’s office made threatening comments to McMillan because of Tides Canada’s funding of ForestEthics, an organization highly critical of the pipeline project and the oilsands industry.
