1. Council will transfer $295 thousand from an equipment reserve to help fund a a sewer utility works contract. Something called “Headworks Improvement Project” at the main Sawmill Road sewage plant will be completed by low bidder Cumming Construction in the amount of $740,000. This project will see a new screen and pumps at the main lift station. The last upgrade to this part of the system was in 1987.
2. Council has endorsed the revised wording of a policy for the transportation of any person at a town sponsored event where liquor is served. The policy outlines levels of responsibility and states that no public funds are to be used and a fee is to be charged by any patron at such events to pay for the costs involved.
3. A temporary use permit requested for a small winery on Fairview Rd has not been approved yet but a decision delayed to allow for more work on the project, more consultation with neighbours and an an opportunity for council to visit the site at 860 Fairview Rd.
4. Council likes the idea of inviting the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to make a presentation about the proposed highway expansion north of Oliver and the government will be invited to outline plans at an upcoming meeting.
5. Likewise, Fortis Gas has been invited to outline its plans for the expansion of natural gas infrastructure in the South Okanagan Smilkameen. Fortis has has a project called “Kingsvale” that is designed to increase the capacity in the region involving a new larger pipeline from Oliver to the Merritt area.
