With the help of Urban Systems, a consultant, the Town of Oliver is currently revising its zoning bylaw which is quite out of date by standards of 2012 and beyond.
Council reviewed suggested changes for two hours at a special meeting Monday but will delay the process in order to consult with owners of land in the industrial area.
Council decided that this open discussion with owners and other interested parties will speed the process of finding community agreement on issues like what should be allowed in light industrial zones – automobile recycling operations and asphalt plants being two examples.
Mayor Ron Hovanes also wants to see the latest provincial standards and requirements folded into any action taken at the local level.
Council wants this new zoning bylaw to go to a public hearing as a complete package – once only – with parties contacted first with lots of discussion beforehand.
The new bylaw will reduce the number of zoning designations and will pictorially outline in the paperwork what each zone will allow for a building type.
