The sr. girls basketball travelled to the Tournament City- Kamloops, last Friday to play the Fulton Maroons in the opener of a competitive 12 team affair . The SOSS squad still hesitate from last Wednesdays upset in Princeton played the first half very tentatively and the score reflected it , as the Hornets trailed 29-19. Using a full court press for the entire second half caused turnovers and the girls began to claw themselves to a 66-53 victory. Ashley McGinnis scored a team record 37 points and along with Jessa Kriesel were named as players of the game.
The semi final saw a much wanted match with #5 ranked and tournament host Sahali, trailing by 15 at one point in the game , the girls drew within three with minutes left . But a win was not to be , and fell short 64-57. It was a very exciting performance and the girls felt invigorated and were once again re-connected with their basketball mojo!
Navi Mann was selected as the game all star.
The 3/4 game saw the Oliver girls play a good team from Price George , PGSS. By this time the girls were back in full flight and lead in every quarter . Younger members of the team played many minutes . Jazmine Grouette continued to strengthen and made the score sheet with her first 4 points as a Sr. Hornet. Rav Sandhu also continued to develop and will be a very strong post player. Jasnoor Sidhu began to shoot and score as well . Sumy Brar and Rory Lodge also put in very solid efforts as the Hornets closed the game 67-41, to finish 3rd in the tournament.
Emily Jentsch was named player of the game. Ashley McGinnis was also named as a tournament All-star.
