What to do with Christmas trees?

Town of Oliver residents can drop off Christmas trees at the south gate of the Oliver Public Works Yards at 34765 91st Street (Sawmill Road).

This service runs from December 26th to Friday, January 6th. Collection of trees by local Air Cadets.

All landfills in the RDOS will accept clean wooden Christmas trees free of charge. Landfills can accept, free of charge, up to 500 kgs (1100 pounds) per load of yard or clean wood waste. Landfills within the RDOS include Campbell Mountain (Penticton), Summerland, Osoyoos, Oliver, Princeton, Keremeos and Okanagan .

The RDOS does not recommend burning Christmas trees as they are too moist to burn cleanly. Any tinsel, fake snow or ornaments left on the tree will create added pollution. Fine particulates from smoke have been linked to respiratory and heart diseases.
