Long time resident and retired postal employee Robert Lee Potter died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at McKinney Place Extended Care, Oliver. Bob was born on Sunday, December 12, 1926 at Haven Hill Hospital, Penticton. Bob was predeceased by son Lee, he is survived by his wife Joan, sons Ross (Sue), and Vance (Sharon), granddaughter Anneka (Shayne), grandson Robert and great-granddaughter Alexandra; by his brothers Gordon and Ken, sister Betty-Anne Russell, as well as many family members. His family moved to Oliver in 1928 and Bob stayed for the remainder of his life. He married Joan Leake in 1948 and raised three boys, a dog and numerous cats over his lifetime. He was a Sunday school teacher, truck driver, rural mail courier, Canada Post employee and an orchardist. Over his lifetime Bob’s memberships included the Boy Scouts, Oliver Kiwanis Club (Charter Member), Oliver Curling Club, Provincial Search & Rescue (co-coordinator 1975-96), Oliver Amateur Radio, as well as being on numerous committees and boards. Favourite pastimes included Square Dancing, singing in the Faith at Work Men’s Choir, tinkering in his shop and spending time with family and friends. A service will be held in Oliver on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. in St. Edward’s Anglican Church with lunch to follow in the Christ the King Catholic Church hall. On behalf of the family, we would like to thank the staff at McKinney Place for the kind and caring support they provided Bob throughout his stay. Each of you played an important part in Bob’s life while he was living at McKinney Place.
