1. A group of three SOSS students appeared as a delegation at Monday’s open council meeting in Oliver to express concerns with the loss of student parking on Spartan Street ( 107th ). Council was told that the changes had been asked for by the Parents Advisory Committee, recommended by school administration/RCMP and implemented by the Town. Students were asked to review the matter at an upcoming PAC meeting.
2. Council heard a presentation from the Canadian Red Cross requesting more free/low cost space for the Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP). In the current fiscal year 237 clients have been helped with 469 pieces of equipment. 13 volunteers have put in over 831 hours. The town will look for space but no location immediately comes to mind that would be considered useful for this purpose.
3. Earlier at a Committee meeting – two requests for consideration were made on the Water Utility. Both requests will be considered by council in the new year when further information is received. One request was for farm water outside the old “SOLID” boundaries and the other for water lines servicing hangers at the airport.
4. Council will advertise for public participation in three civic committees, Parks and Recreation, Economic Development and Airport Advisory. Those ads will be seen in the coming weeks and council will consider the appointments again in late January.
5. Council heard a presentation from Roxie Van Aller of Desert Sun Counselling for permanent funding for Community Outreach projects like Community Kitchen and Community Gardens. Council will consider the requests in January and has decided to review all grants-in-aid and line items in the budget at a special session in January.
