Last Wednesday was the the first league game for the Hornets in Penticton vs the Maggie Mustangs. Both teams are early in their seasons and struggled with their games but it was the Hornets who finished ahead 61-29.
Next League action is at home against Summerland, January 4th in the new gym at 5 p.m.
It was this weekend’s action in Vernon that has the team believing in themselves. At the annual Pit Classic hosted by the Vernon Panthers and Kalamalka Lakers the number of schools expanded this year to 14, including #3 ranked Holy Cross from Surrey, #4 Sahali -Kamlooops and #8 Vernon.
Friday afternoon’s action saw the Hornets shoot, defend and compete to a lopsided 61-20 win over LV Rogers from Nelson.
Ashley McGinnis was named player of the game.
In a winner’s second round game late Friday night the girls faced the Kalamalka Lakers, and though the home team was missing a few players, they gave a strong game, but it was the Hornets who again came out ahead, 49-30.
Jessa Kriesel was this games highlighted player.
Saturday found the Hornets in the envious position to gauge themselves against the province’s 3rd highest ranked and well oiled team, Holy Cross, from Surrey. The feisty girls never gave up but dropped the game by 17 points, 56-39. A score that would be the tightest of all the teams that would play against them during the entire tournament on the way to the Crusader’s winning the whole thing.
The game that would decide 3rd and 4th was played against the host school VSS , and in an exciting contest that sea-sawed all game. It was now the Hornets that prevailed and knocked off the number eight ranked Panthers 61-58 after losing to them in the last 4 years.
Emily Jentsch was named player of the game .
Ashley McGinnis was named to the tournament All-Star squad.
The Lady Hornets will round out this year with a tournament at Pen Hi starting on Wednesday, before taking the Christmas break.

A report on Senior Mens from Maurizio Basso
Hornets hosted the 51st Okana Qen tournament this weekend. Without there key player Greet Gill the Hornets were unable to win a game. The team kept every game close but they could not eke out any wins as they lost to L.V.Rogers SS from Nelson 81-77, Archbishop Carney 60-52, and Clarence Fulton 50-48.
Gurk Dhaliwal, Parm Sidhu and Jivan Gill were players of the game.
