Saturday Oliver hosted a “test day”, with three other clubs from our region. Test days are mandatory for Starskate and Competitive skaters to take in order to move up to different levels. Tests consist of four different catagories, such as Skills, dance, freeskate and interpretive. These tests require a judge and a official report for each test they take. A skater must pass a test before taking the next one. This is done over several years of skating. Dance requires a partner who is usually a professional male skater.
Each of the four types of tests is broken into levels of skill. There are 6 levels in each group ranging from Preliminary up to the Gold level.
In April of 2010 Becky Brimacombe had passed all of her Skills, and as of today she passed her last Gold Dance, which was the Westminister Waltz. This entitles her to recieving a special certificate and Gold Skate pin from Skate Canada in each of these two categories. The club is very proud that she is the first Skater from the South Okanagan Figure Skating Club to have reached these levels in 8 years.
Becky has done a lot with her skating in the last few years. She had been a Ice Patcher for the 2009 ISU Four Continent World Championships in Vancouver, and was also invited to Ice Patch for the Olympic Games but she did decline due to school. She has also obtained her Canskate Professional Coaching Certificate thru Skate Canada, and can teach up to badge 5 of the Canskate Program.
Becky thanks her Coach Shelley Mantua for all her hard work and dedication to helping her achieve these goals.
