The season for the SOSS Sr. Girls Basketball started at full pace when they travelled to Summerland to a eight team tournament this past weekend.
The Hornets were pitted against Delview Secondary from North Delta in the opening game on Friday. After a tentative start, they went on to beat the Lower Mainland team 77-29.
The semi final game saw a strong “AAA” team from Mt. Boucherie fall in an exciting , see-saw battle that was won on the foul line with only 10 seconds left. Final score 49-48. A win that had many in attendance clearly impressed and placed the feisty Oliver squad in the Championship game against the hometown Summerland Rockets.
The two teams have had many games over the years , both equally matched, but it was the Hornets that prevailed this time in a hard fought battle that ended 55-49.
Both teams realizing the upcoming league schedule will provide many hours of good competitive basketball.
The Lady Hornets have their first league game on Wednesday at Maggie, in Penticton. They will also go to Vernon this upcoming weekend to the annual tournament hosted by Vernon Secondary and Kalamalka Secondary and will have 14 top teams from all over BC.
