Brittany has been going to school at Children’s Hospital every morning and she is working on the same materials as kids in Oliver as they fax her homework right to hospital. And Kayla has been here also doing her work while she spends some time with me and Britt. Brandon has been staying with our good friend Grace Pylatuck -love her to pieces- her son is Brandon’s best friend (I used to babysit them till they started school so they grew up together). I feel a lot better knowing he is in good hands back home when he doesn’t want to make the 5 hour trip down here like Bernie does every weekend.
Starlight Foundation, Child Life, and Children’s Heart Network have been great to us, she has gotten to see some hockey games and football games, and concerts to try to keep her entertained and not miss home so much. Brittany also Skype’s with some of her friends showing them the Ronald McDonald House and some of the good friends we have made here. They are lifelong friends now.
We are out of hospital and will stay here until she will be allowed to go home. After I did the article for the Oliver Chronicle she was to have a meeting with the doctors after her Echo cardiogram was completed and we did.
The test showed there was no improvement or change. So they make the call to put her as a Status 4 -S which means she is now at the top of the transplant list and will get the first available heart that matches. Keep in mind her antibodies are 94% which means only 6% of the hearts that are available will be a match.
She has blood work done at the end of each month about 7 tubes is what they normally get out of a person for transplant but have only been able to get 2 tubes out of Britt and that is suctioning most of the time. She has to have echoes done once a month also. Because of her high antibodies they are like that of a woman when she is pregnant so it’s good in ways and not so good, as that could mean the cells might attack the new heart, that’s why they want to make sure everyone takes their anti-rejection drugs and not miss them after transplant.
People are leaving messages at home phone to get bank account set up and we have so if you wouldn’t mind printing that for us it’s
