We have been asked on many occasions “how long will my battery last”? So, we thought we’d post some info pertaining to batteries most commonly used in digital cameras.
There are two main types of re-chargeable batteries that are being used today in most hand-held electronic devices: Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-Mh) and Lithium Ion (Li-ion). These batteries differ from the older sty…le Nicad batteries in that they don’t suffer from the “memory” charge problem.
Li-ion batteries are more popular and most likely the kind you use in your digital camera unless you are using AA or AAA re-chargables in which are most likely to be the Ni-Mh style.
The key to charging these batteries is to NOT let them drain completely; in fact, regular charging is recommended to prolong the life of the battery.
Even if the battery is not in use, it will slowly drain itself and become depleted over time. So it’s important to charge unused batteries as well. Most Li-ion and Ni-Mh batteries can be re-charged up to 400 times.
