We are looking for a way to put out information to parents at SOSS. Could you post these minutes on ODN? We spent considerable amount of money on transportation costs for the school. There seems to be a real short fall when it comes to transportation for the school. Unfortunately, with our district being a rural district, we are finding that for our sports teams to participate in tournaments, they have to travel farther. The Ministry tells us that there is no more money for transportation. Which is frustrating because we get the same amount per student as those in urban areas (who can take public transportation to games because they have enough schools and teams to have the opportunities to play with many other teams.)
This topic has been brought up at the last 3 PAC meetings with requests from coaches and teachers for funds to help with transportation. The school is having to charge students to play, sports at SOSS is becoming more and more for those who can afford it.
We feel it is important for other parents to see how we have spent the PAC monies and to know what is going on at the school.

Highlights:
Street parking on Spartan Avenue (107th)
Met about the parking with Mitch Van Aller, Bev LeClerc from Bus Garage, Shawn Goodsell from the Town and the RCMP. A decision has been made to close 107th to 350th to parking. This will now be a temporary stopping zone to drop of students – a no parking zone. They are waiting for signs and then this will be in effect. Bus lane still working well. Students will no longer be able to park in the Catholic church parking lot. Waiting to hear when the church wants the cars to stop parking there. Crosswalk from Catholic church to school – Town did not approve as there will be no need when the parking issue has been changed.
Transportation for Extra Curricular Activities
Mr. Fuller dropped in at the end of our meeting to bring his concerns about transportation for winter sports:
.
we have tremendous kids in this school
.
costs are increasing and want sports available to all students
.
gave example of how much each student will have to play for the season and is not comfortable asking parents to continue to pay these prices to have their kids play in sports
.
requested PAC to help with transportation if they can
.
