17 men and 1 woman discussed for about an hour $4.25 million in gas tax money and how it should be spent on regionally significant projects…but in the end could not make a decision.
Directors at the RDOS from rural areas and six municipalities debated whether to spend it all on 1 project – a regional trail system – or to carve it up into many projects from Princeton, to Osoyoos, to Summerland. But no go.
The rhetoric was not hot but signs of parochial bitterness showed
its face with a decision to:
1. Wait until after the election Saturday
2. Re-work the plan on spending with Penticton asking for its fair
share and wanting all areas to work toward sub-regional thinking
3. Not discuss it again until January 2012.
Oliver Town wanted money for a new well (Buchanan) for both rural and town water users. Oliver Rural wanted funds for a Gallagher Lake sewer project. At the moment no commitments but the discussion is not over.
