How’s the Oliver Curling Centre Day League doing this season and who are these happy people?
They are members of the eight teams that make up the “Daytime” curling league who are half way through the first of the three-seven week sessions that make up their season.
Curling at 11:00 am each Monday and Wednesday these teams of determined men and women try ever so hard to pit their skills against each other.
At this point three teams are tied for the lead each with 5 wins and 2 losses: Skip Leo Rivera with John Surovy, Abe Wieler and Gord Morrison; Skip Mal Bearman with Foster Doering, Terry Einarson and Fred Naharnoff and Skip Cornie Zacharias with, Manny Concalves, Fernando Anjos aided by various capable spares.
An added twist to this season is the availability of “treats” prior to each game. The coffee and sweets are courtesy of one of the Centre’s sponsors, the Oliver Bakery. Too much sweet stuff may make the “hurry hard” aspect of the game a bit more taxing but would you turn down an oh-so-delicious donut – no way.
There is always room for more Day League curlers. We make up the teams so everyone signs up as singles and skill level or age are not a concern as it’s all about FUN and FRIENDSHIP. Can’t picture yourself doing all that bending and sliding – delivering rocks with a delivery stick will keep you in the game; come out and try it, we’ll show you how it’s done.
