Today is the advance poll for the civic election. In the old days you needed to have a reason – now it is called an early voting opportunity.
The signs are all down around the Oliver Community Centre and this morning at 8am the doors will open to a throng of candidates a
nd others eager to put their vote to the machine.
Pictured is Linda Schultz showing how easy it is to swipe your drivers license through the machine to ensure – one person – one vote.
“Election officials report that several voters have shown up the advance poll with only one piece of identification based on your story, which states that the drivers’ licences being used to ensure one person-one vote.
Actually, the drivers licence scanning is being used only to speed up the input of name and address information that was entered by hand in a poll book at previous elections. The published Notice of Election by Voting clearly stated in bold that two pieces of identification (at least one of which must have a signature) are required in order to vote. This is a provincially legislated requirement.”
Tom Szalay – Town of Oliver Manager.
