Sponsors needed by NOVEMBER 25th
Deliveries to Families in need starting December 16
Since 2004 the Kiwanis Club of Oliver has coordinated the Share the Spirit program in Oliver. The premise was to provide some Christmas cheer to needy individuals and families in the Oliver area.
The idea was to provide something under the tree that may not be possible for these folks, thereby making a little happier Christmas for those unable to provide what so many of us take for granted – items such as dry goods, clothes & toys.
Names of clients and their needs are provided to the Kiwanis Club coordinators in strict confidence by the Ministry of Social services and other family service agencies. Sponsors, either corporate, community or individual are found and they volunteer to sponsor one or more of the clients. The client’s names are never revealed to the sponsor.
Sponsors receive a form with information on the client[s] they agree to sponsor providing details on family members, ages of children and what they might need in the way of assistance or ideas for possible gifts. The sponsors then purchase and wrap [package] items for their family and all boxes are brought to a central location a few days before Christmas Day for delivery to the families by a group of Oliver Kiwanis volunteers.
Last year the project sponsored a total of 45 families. Sponsors and families are anonymous to each other – this is simply a way for the community to show love and compassion for others during the Christmas season
The Oliver Kiwanis Club is proud to organize the
“SHARE the SPIRIT”
program again this year. As a community let’s help
everyone have something under the tree. Potential sponsors are
requested to respond by Nov. 25. People are starting to think
Christmas so consider “SHARING THE SPIRIT”.
