YELLOW LAKE – Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike will enjoy a safer Highway 3A, as the Ministry of Transportation has constructed two-metre wide shoulders, added a concrete roadside barrier, and improved ditches.
Why this matters:
· Wider shoulders will improve safety for all users of the highway including vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
· Wider ditches will improve sight lines and provide an area to catch fallen rock.
· These improvements will also compliment the bicycle leg of the Penticton Iron Man triathlon.
Quotes:
“Projects like this may not create provincial headlines, but they’re absolutely crucial for all users – on and off the highway.”
– Boundary-Similkameen MLA John Slater
Additional Information:
The shoulders have been widened along a four kilometer section of Highway 3A.
Work started December 6, 2010 and was completed October 18, 2011.
The $5.6M contract was awarded to Wiltech Developments Inc. of Westbank, B.C.
