1. School District #53 has decided to help, in a one-off situation, the SOSS Girls’ Field Hockey Team, with the cost of transportation. Trustees approved after a long debate a $500 subsidy for the team going to Provincials next week at the coast. A number of trustees were initially not in favour of this as it sets a precedent but in the end agreed to the suggestion that this group brings honour to the school and needs the board’s help.
Director of Operations Mitch van Aller suggested at one point that the District could just use a school bus but it was pointed out that a four day stay for a driver would exceed the amount of the subsidy requested. A trip to the coast for the team will cost more than $3000 for accommodation, food and fees.
2. Enrolment Report: 2393 total district enrolment with an increase of 27 students. Largest growth in elementary schools
3. Apple Canada has agreed to loan SOSS 50 I-Pads for grade 12 school students to help with their education this year.
