1. Council agreed to fund the filming of Oliver for a TV program – “West Coast Escapes” which airs on CHEK TV (Victoria), Shaw Cable and the Travel channel. Forty planes would land in Oliver next summer as part of this promotion and stay overnite before departing on journey to northern Canada.
2. RDOS Bylaw 2445 for to control smoke in the valley was consented to by Oliver Town Council. Enforcement of burning regulations would be done by the Regional District within fire protection districts.
3. Lori Martine, coordinator of the Youth Ambassador Program appeared before council requesting an increase in annual funding to allow the current 4 ambassadors to tour the province. No decision was made but the request was for $3500 on top of the current $1500.
4. Judy Nicholas appeared before council asking that a moratorium on ‘Smart Meter’ use be agreed to by the Town of Oliver. Nicholas says 20 other communities in the province have done so. Nicholas says our power supplier Fortis does not have permission to use this device and says this is the time to act.
5. Council will ask the province for a license of occupation on the walkway – eastside of Okanagan River – 350th to the drop structure. This application is connected to the Referendum which calls for the paving of this path.
6. Council heard the concerns of Oliver resident Bob Bull who says his water bill is too high. Bull says those property owners who have larger lots should not be penalized because of water metering and asked council to consider ways of levelling the playing field. He says he has tried to save on water but his property is about a half acre with trees and lawns.
