I was first elected in 1996, have four terms behind me now, also five grandchildren that have appeared during the same period.. two of which attend T.E.N. School.
I still work for thew local Highways contractor, Argo, and my wife, Robbie still works at the Oliver Hospital. I’ve given up on building cardboard boats… I build guitars now. I’m still the same ‘Green energy’ guy I was when first elected. I’m proud that I had ‘some’ influence in that regard and glad that our pool is now solar heated, the curling arena has geo-thermal our building inspector drives a Town hybrid, Public works has an electric truck, we are changing our street lighting to ‘down-facing’ shades and that Oliver did win an award for sustainability.
I’d still be happy if we could find the grant funding to do a pilot project like Kimberly is doing (A massive solar electric project) as I know we have at least the same amount of sunshine hours.
I presently chair the Restorative Justice Committee in Oliver. It was and is needed in our community and serves us well. I also am chair of the Oliver Safe Community Group who will be presenting safety recommendations to Council soon.
I’m delighted to see the quality of our new candidates for office and I commend the all for tossing their hats in the ring.I hope we have a good turnout of voters this election.
