On Saturday October 15th, 2011, at approximately 3:05PM, Oliver/Osoyoos RCMP were dispatched to a collision involving a car and a bus on Highway 97 at Island Rd., just north of Oliver, BC. Witnesses stated that a Green 1997 Toyota Tercel attempted to turn left onto Island Rd and was struck by a Yellow 2007 International Bus. The driver of the Toyota, a 32 year old Penticton male, admitted that he was following the GPS on his cell phone and not paying attention to the roadway. He was transported to South Okanagan General Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.
The 66 year old Penticton male driver and sole occupant of the bus was released at scene with no injuries reported. Both vehicles suffered damage and were towed from the scene. The driver of the Toyota was issued a Violation Ticket for “Drive Without Due Care and Attention.”
