A grad of SOSS in 1975 with many years of business experience, Dave Mattes is prepared to run and win a seat on council in Oliver. Mattes says a number of people have urged him to bring his business background to the table and running for the position of councillor is a good first step into local politics.

Mattes and wife Brenda moved to Oliver in 1991 and built a home and ran several businesses before retiring. He says Oliver needs a hotel to stay competitive and he has ideas on how to attract such a venture but says the Town would have to be prepared to get involved in such an enterprise. He says he is a team player and while in business had to work along side other managers to help take a corporation forward.
