2011 Drag Racing wraps up for WC Racing Association

Vic Macor, one of the many volunteers that make racing at Richter Pass Motorplex possible, gives the signal and lets two racers approach the starting lights. Pictured are David Sidden from Kelowna, in his orange, 1972 Dodge Dart and Summerland’s Bruce Mackereth driving his white, 1955 Chevrolet. Mackereth won the Ron Tasker Memorial Sportsmanship award for the 2011 season.

The Wine Country Racing Association (WCRA) hosted 77 race cars on the final event of their 2011 season. Viewers were treated to 224 races as the participants fought their way to the top. Winners are as follows:

Okanagan Car Club Challenge
3 Car Clubs, Okanagan Rodtiques, Kelowna Kustoms & Oliver Coachmasters took up the Challenge for bragging rights, in the end Jim Mckelvey (the old Smoothy) of Summerland driving his somewhat green 1947 Ford Coupe for the Okanagan Rodtiques
Defeated Tim Heibert of osoyoos driving his  Black 1990 Ford Mustang for the Coachmasters

All Out Fast Car Show Down
Neil Ericson of Osoyoos driving his Yellow 1969 Camaro blasted down the 1/8 mile in 6.223 Seconds

The Ron Tasker Memorial Sportsmanship Trophy for the 2011 racing year was awarded to Bruce Mackereth of Summerland who drives a White 1955 Chev
