I am going to revisit a story we brought to the public’s attention because of complaints from cyclists who liked to use the Fairview/White Lake route as a safe enjoyable back road experience. It is neither safe or enjoyable for just about anyone.
The project started more than two weeks ago and I took early Sunday-drive-time to inspect just a small portion. The rain had fallen and there were a few puddles but generally it did not look or feel like an improved road. Lots of ridges, extra pea gravel on roadway – not as before.
Many people had used this route to get around heavy highway traffic or delays in the valley. It will be sometime before I return to that habit.
The local MLA was informed but generally no official has come forth with any reasonable explanation for this quality of work. A Vancouver Island road contractor working for Argo did the project – but in many people’s opinion it should have been paved.
Picture above shows the junction of Secrest and Fairview/WL – where lovely pavement meets ugly gravel.
Now on to other things…
