The RCMP’s South Okanagan Integrated Road safety Unit is reporting a 71 year-old Okanagan Falls woman was killed Friday at about 7:30 in the evening.
The woman was struck while crossing Highway 97 in Okanagan Falls by a westbound vehicle driven by a 60 year-old Penticton man.
Police report there is limited street lighting in that area, the portion of the road is not a designated pedestrian crossing zone, and she was wearing dark clothes at the time.
Traffic was disrupted on Main Street for about two hours as emergency crews attended the scene. OK Falls Fire Department dispatched first and managed the accident scene until police arrived.
Penticton RCMP, a Regional Collision Analyst and the Coroner were also on the scene Friday night.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation and the RCMP ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident please call 250-499-2250 or Crime Stoppers.
