Trustees will meet next Wednesday and one topic of discussion will be the cost of water for irrigating lawns and play fields. The school district controls one of the biggest areas of green grass inside the Town of OliverĀ and is seeking relief from the high cost of using potable drinking water to irrigate fields.
Recently the top brass of the SD and the Town met to discuss options. That meeting heard that play-fields in the RDOS/Town joint service Oliver parks system – most water used comes from the river via the flume at no cost.
Options possible would be an annual levy for irrigation rather than a metered rate for water, use of “purple” water (treated water or effluent, the use of old pump and well at Tuc-el-nuit School. The school district was also advised that no other local municipality shares potable water for irrigating lawns at a reduced rate. Another option would be to pump out of the irrigation canal near the school and apply for a farm rate for water.
