Readers write in about highway concerns:
While complaining about a White Lake/Fairview Rd…..here’s another road problem that needs addressing before an accident happens. It’s the invisible stop sign at 121st Street and #3 Road!
Driving south on 121, the stop sign at #3 Rd is completely hidden by tree branches. It’s a T-intersection so you have to slow down but at night it could be a hazard.

While we have road conditions in the news with White Lake Rd ( which is a hell of a mess ) a future disaster looms at the entrance to the new intersection to the OIB industrial estate.
My concern is the layout of the intersection allowing vehicles to access the highway when going south to Oliver with the new feeder lane on to one lane southbound which I see as a recipe for accidents, the feeder lane will not be long enough during busy times along the highway to allow traffic from the industrial area to merge safely. A similar system as this is along the Channel Parkway at Green Ave. in Penticton but there you have two lanes to feed into and most traffic is already in the righthand lane ready for the turn at Skaha Lake.
When a truck or cargo van turns toward Oliver on the new feeder lane, his vision is restricted and he will have to merge blind forcing southbound vehicles to brake in this situation, if the feeder lane was longer, say down as far as Oasis, these vehicles may safely change lanes and also better allow a right turn by Oasis at 71 St
Not helping matters here is the sharp bend at Gallagher lake on the highway. With all the resurfacing just completed, why did Highways not take some of the bend out, lots of empty land at that corner. Now the southbound traffic on the highway navigates a sharp bend and immediately is faced with the new intersection We had a fatal accident at this corner not long ago, how long before we see another fatality along here. It seems that in BC, road safety just entails erecting yet another “Slow Down” sign instead of improving our highways.
