On September 12, 2011 the Oliver Sports & Recreation Society received an additional donation to bring this year’s donation to $3000.00 from the Nk’Mip Canyon Black & White Scramble to support events for our Oliver children.
This years funding will be used to continue the successful Floor Hockey Program currently in place from September 26, 2011 to May of 2012. (as noted in the Fall 2011 Parks & Rec Program Guide).
The additional funding will also provide the initiation of a program in January of 2012 for girls aged 11 – 14 years that will focus on physical activity, self-esteem building and leadership by removing barriers such as registration fees or transportation costs and providing a variety of different activities chosen by participants. The program will be a mixture of after school and evening activities such as (but not limited to) yoga, painting, snowshoeing, self-defense, hip hop dance, skating, curling, and cooking classes.
The Tournament Committee ( Debbie Brunelle, Anne Dalziel, Penny Rivera, Lynn Hoffman, & Irene Lussier) wish to extend its sincere thanks for the wonderful support of the Oliver and surrounding business communities and our major sponsor – the Elk’s Lodge #267, without which, this tournament could not have
happened.
The real winners are the children of Oliver who will benefit from a donation to the Oliver Sports and Recreation Department to support sporting events for children who may not otherwise be able to afford them.
