In point form – here are the results of Monday’s Oliver Town Council meeting:
1. A license to occupy from the province to the Town for the skate park lands at Lion’s park will now be transferred to the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society.
2. A request from the Osoyoos Indian Band for sewer service to 81 lots at Canyon Desert Resort has been deferred until a new sewer servicing agreement can be renegotiated with the OIB. Mayor Pat Hampson and Councillor Michael Newman were appointed to assist staff with these negotiations.
3. Irrigation shut off date has been set at October 11.
4. Discussions about increasing rent for the museum and archives building was deferred for six months allowing the Heritage Society to work on a strategic directions plan.
5. Long term financial contract with Okanagan Boys and Girls Club was deferred until after a meeting between Oliver Parks staff and the local Boys and Girls Club. Council is seeking proposals from this joint meeting for youth services in the community.
6. A license to occupy land on the airport has been approved for the Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue Group. This will allow the organization to apply for grants in an effort to erect a building to house their equipment.
7. Oliver has a new dog pound contractor. Gerri Eagleson of 2nd Chance Animal Rescue will be paid a retainer of $200 per month and boarding fees of $25 a day for up to 72 hours – after a dog is captured running loose.
