Number of reports today of an accident holding up traffic and long delays in the Gallagher Lake area of Highway 97. According to the Transportation ministry – single lane traffic is the norm in this area with 10 minutes delays. Locals are advised that until all the work is finished in this area – alternate routes are suggested.
A note from a reader: Today the construction crew are working on paving the shoulder/new lane on the east side of Hwy 97 north of the new Industrial Park. This has backed up traffic significantly. I left my office in Oliver at about 10:55 and walked into our Penticton office at 12:25 – a trip that usually takes about 45 minutes. It is disappointing that the crew did not see fit to post warning signs, as it would have been significantly faster to take White Lake Road. Perhaps some of your readers would appreciate the warning. Take care, Jan. RCMP contacted but no report of any serious accidents.
Picture at top taken during the day with line ups back to the bridge. Picture at bottom taken at dusk – indicates some paving has occurred on south side of highway but delays just the same. Crews are not only constructing roadways, paving but still have digging to do and power line work.
