About 30 people showed for a meeting last Tuesday to discuss the Golden Mile Trail on the west side of the valley south of Fairview. Proponents of walking in nature presented their arguments to Regional District Director Allan Patton.
Patton says representative of the owners did not show up until after the meeting and he is hoping for a private meeting soon. The land in question is owned in part by the Thompson family.
Patton says one land owner Bill Eggert has offered a part of his land that could be used as a start point for a trail that would wind its way around the golf course before heading further south to Tinhorn Creek and the old Stamp Mill.
Part of the existing trail used to be a road – Reed Creek Road – according to Patton but is no longer maintained by the Highways Department – parts of the path have a lot of history that should be recognized he says.
Some land at the north end (Fairview Rd/Reed Creek) have been closed to the public by land owners.
Patton says the file is still very active and he hopes to find a resolution – a win/win for both property owners and the naturalists.
