Today’s 3pm news conference – no surprises with police confirming Red Scorpian member Jonathan Bacon shot dead yesterday outside the casino in Kelowna. Police confirm one other person, a motorcyle gang member is in critical condition – two others, both women with less serious injuries remain under observation. One of the shooting victims, an unknown male is on the loose and police are seeking help from hospitals and the public to report anyone with a gunshot wound.
RCMP are promising “swift and extraordinary measures” to find those responsible for the brazen mid-day shooting that left one dead and several others wounded in front of horrified onlookers near the Kelowna’s waterfront – a stone’s throw from the police station.
Constable Steve Holmes says, “There is much that is not yet known and that much of what is known must be confirmed before it is stated as fact.”
What is known: Police received a call from witnesses at the scene at 2:45pm Sunday afternoon that a shooting had occurred at the entranceway of the Grand Hotel on Water Street. Constable Holmes says a white Porsche SUV with several people inside – both male and female – was leaving the hotel when a suspect vehicle pulled up behind and began shooting at the white SUV.
He says the victim’s vehicle drove a short distance and then stopped – everyone inside had suffered gunshot wounds and are being treated in hospital.
Constable Holmes says the suspect vehicle – a silvery-green SUV – had a number of people inside.
