Lots of dignitaries shown below but it took only two to unveil the Salmon Chief statue. 
Chief Clarence Louie pointed out that the land on which the monument stands use to be OIB Reserve 2 but that land was taken away. Louie also said it was the first year that native fishing had come back to the falls. Because of river related projects north of Oliver – salmon could now reach the falls and natives could access a hereditary source of fish.
The monument idea came from Bill Schwarz, RDOS Director for the area who thanked the various government agencies and community groups for helping to made the project successful.
