The Government of Canada has granted 2.5 million dollars to the Town of Oliver’s water utility to complete some of the last phase of water twinning.
The benefit is in the loan arrangements at below market rates.

“Our Government understands the importance of infrastructure in maintaining strong and prosperous communities.” said Minister Alice Wong. “This program opened the door to meet Oliver’s housing-related infrastructure needs. Canada’s Economic Action Plan will continue to create jobs and stimulate the local economy here in British Columbia, and in all corners of the country.”
Mayor Pat Hampson says the Town of Oliver is the purveyor of domestic and irrigation water to over 6,000 customers both in Town and Area ‘C’. Small towns such as Oliver rely on opportunities to secure loans at very affordable rates; in our case the money is critical to the continuation of our Water Twinning Project enabling us to complete Phase Two and parts of Phase Three.
(Note: The remainder of Phase Three is subject to approval of our application for Gas Tax money from the Union of BC Municipalities).
