The South Okanagan community has come together to catch a man who was the subject of a Canada-wide manhunt after a woman was tied up and assaulted in Penticton this past weekend.
RCMP arrested David Wesley Bobbitt Wednesday evening along Highway 97 south of Oliver, (Rd 22 area) acting on a tip phoned in by an orchard owner who had found Bobbitt setting up camp in his property.
“I would like to thank both the public and RCMP for the vigilance shown in this situation, especially the orchard owner who did the smart thing by calling the RCMP,” said Penticton Mayor Dan Ashton. “It is very rare that we have situations like this in our community, and to have both the public and law enforcement come together to capture this suspect so quickly is encouraging to see. It is up to all of us to keep our South Okanagan community safe.”
A Canada-wide warrant for Bobbitt’s arrest was issued Monday. A 22-year-old woman was found tied up and violently assaulted Saturday evening at Bobbitt’s business, Dave’s Second Hand Store in Penticton.
