Anna Vakar had a nasty fall downtown a week ago Wednesday (July 20) – mostly damage to her face. She tripped while crossing the road, near 356th at Highway 97. Vakar dropped her wallet and much of its contents fell out onto the road. But a friend was there to help.
Rick Elless (pictured right) confirms what Anna said about how the accident occurred but tells what happened later is worse as someone broke into her house and stole an envelope with $1000 American. The house had been ransacked. Police say the house was found to be unlocked. Anna says “I do not want to live in fear” and is glad to have so many friends to help her now that she has to use a walker to get around. Police have warned her to take extra security precautions.
Anna Vakar is widely known in Oliver. She was taken to the hospital nearby her home July 20th where she underwent treatment for severe facial bruising and a cracked pelvis but released 6 days later.
Elless says the final insult was that while Anna was being helped, after her fall – some one made off with about $70 in cash from her wallet.
