Young orchardist, David Machial, certainly knows how to grow cherries. Count them – 9 cherries to the foot! Or 8 Row Cherries! These are lapins and a new sizing template had to be developed by the industry to accommodate these “plum” cherries. For those who are not aware, 8 row cherries means that it would take 8 cherries to go from one side of a 20 lb fruit box to the other. In days gone bye, the top layer in the box was hand packed and the cherries arranged in neat rows!! Hence the origin of the sizing names. Just for interest 8 row cherries are a minimum of 84/64th of an inch (or 1 5/16th” )
