1. Council in an afternoon session heard complaints about the use of Lion’s Park in the summer months by out of town pickers. Concerns included the park being totally monopolized, dogs running loose, camping taking place and tourists being scared off. Council will looking into increased lighting at night, a gate to be installed if approved by Parks Board and enhanced bylaw enforcement.
2. Council agreed to send a letter to Jack Layton, federal opposition leader, wishing him a speedy recovery.
3. Council granted the operators of the Centennial RV park a one year extension of their lease. The Town will charge for sewer and water based on the current bylaws for a six month period only – as the park is closed for the winter months at the direction of the municipality.
4. Council authorized a bylaw that will enable a referendum in the fall for $2.5 million dollars for road and sidewalk improvements to Fairview Road (350th).
5. Councillor Terry Schafer resigned his position as lead liason with the Police, Fire and Emergency services. He will be replaced by Michael Newman with Marji Basso acting as alternate.
6. The budget for a strategic plan for Oliver Airport has been increased to $51000 from $42000. The Airport Advisory Committee has chosen Cornerstone Planning of Vancouver to complete the plan prior to the new year.
