The Regional District Okanagan Similkameen will go to court to clean up two properties north of Oliver. The RDOS will seek an injunction ordering the owners of land near the Park Rill on Island Way Road to restore the area and remove all unauthorized material.
Both properties are used to store old cars. Some of the vehicles are on crown land and road allowances. RDOS directors gave the go ahead on Thursday despite some last minute appeals.
A number of complaints were issued in 2008 against the owners of two properties on Island Way Road – north of the Town of Oliver.
The two properties in question 37429 IW Road – containing 30 cars – east side of Road towards river (Miller) and 37406 IW Road – containing 380 cars – west side of the Road (Cook). The derelict vehicles are sitting in a high flood plain adjacent to a watercourse. Some of the cars are on the highways department’s “right of way”.
The complaints were based on danger to the environment.
