A 52 year old Vernon woman is dead after an accident in the south Okanagan.
The incident happened after 7 Wednesday night on Highway 97 at the Vaseux Lake corner.
The woman and her 60 year old husband, who was driving the motorcycle north, lost control while rounding the curve and were ejected into southbound traffic and hit by a vehicle. The husband suffered moderate injuries.
Police say this is not the first fatality to occur there, with another happening just a few weeks ago.
“Traffic investigators confirmed that the pair on the Harley Davidson motorcycle were northbound when the operator lost control when negotiating the hairpin turn, ejecting both riders of the motorcycle into the oncoming traffic,” says RCMP Cpl Dan Moskaluk.
RCMP traffic investigators are continuing their investigation into the crash, with the preliminary determination that speed is a contributing factor.
The portion of highway in question is in a posted 80 kilometre per hour zone with a posted 40 kilometre per hour cautionary speed advisory sign at the curve.
