Council will budget $15,000 in the 2012 budget in order to complete a project started some time ago – to replace all downtown garbage cans. 15 sturdy cans will be purchased with a total design cost of $8,600 and a manufacturing cost of $21 500. All work on the project by Munckhof Manufacturing of Oliver with a unique black/copper colouration. The designs done in consultation with students. Winners of the contest Phil and Jordan Klein. Another student Megan Jentsch was hired to clean up the design features. Some of the cans could be on the streets this fall. Council also gave some direction to staff to start changing some of the colours being used on poles, lights, tree guards maintained by town crews.
BC Seniors Games – council is committed to this 2014 joint venture with Osoyoos, Rural Area C and Area A to the amount of $13, 369. Bids close on July 14 and Penticton/Summerland now interested in this as well.
Council asked staff to check into the cost of distributing maps to all residents once the street names and house numbers have been changed.
Council will support the effort to have all MSP payment for seniors paid for by the government.
Council will offer the Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue a license of occupation for airport land until a building can be constructed in the future. The one year renewable license will be replaced by a long term lease once the organization is ready to build.
