Rudi and Gaby’s 1 year anniversary @ Cock and Bull
Wednesday June 1st, 2011marks the one year anniversary for Rudi and Gaby as being the proud owners of Cock and Bull Cappuccino Bar. Husband and Wife moved from Cech Slovakia where they owned Chada Pod Borisovom, a resort situated on beautiful hills that change beauty with each season. Chada Pod Borisovom still holds a great deal of happiness for the couple as it was a mountain hikers paradise. As they immigrated to Canada, Port Coquitlam became their home for the next 16 years.
Having an interest for owning their own business, the couple went on a search for a restaurant/coffee shop in BC. “ I travelled all over the province looking for the perfect business,” says Rudi. While on the search to find what would soon become their pride and joy, Cock and Bull was not on the viewing list. “ I took a wrong turn at the intersection on the way to Penticton and saw the shop randomly,” says Rudi. As soon as he walked in, he was sold and the couple started a new chapter of their lives.
Regular customers Gary Kovich and Gordon Spencer say that Gaby and Rudi’s positive business approach and kind hearts are why they keep coming back for morning coffees. Both have been coming to Cock and Bull for over 7 years and the new ownership has not changed their choice of a local coffee shop.
The last year has not been an easy start for the couple. “ When we bought the shop it was the middle of the season and we had no idea of how to do things properly,” says Rudi. By spending time with the couple and discussing the stages of their progress in the shop, it was clear that they put in hard work to get to where they are. Working 7 days a week and dedicating their hearts and souls to their business, they have built up trust within their customers and value a close-knit environment.
When I started working at Cock and Bull I was blown away by the amount of pride both Rudi and Gaby hold within customer service. Everything made at the shop is fresh as Rudy does not believe frozen foods hold quality. Cock and Bull and all other independently owned coffee shops in Oliver have a community oriented atmosphere. They all lean towards positive communication and give customers a chance to truly be involved in each others lives. All our local coffee shops allow us to slow down from our busy lives and seek happiness in the smaller things in life.
If you haven’t already done so, stop into Cock and Bull and interact with 2 amazing additions to the Community of Oliver. Congratulate them on their hard work and be apart of an amazing environment! I’ll be working Thurs to Sun 9am-3pm from now until the end of August. See you all there!
