As we hope for the long, hot, lazy days of summer and as school activities wind down for the school year, the Oliver Public Library gears up for another great Summer Reading Club program. This summer, girls and boys are encouraged to “Savour Each Word” and join in the free events happening at the library. The library’s Summer Reading Club is a FREE program for children age 5 to 12. Children receive a reading record and a chance to win some great prizes throughout the summer, as well as an invitation to join in the special events that will be held on Thursday evenings in the library starting July 7 and continuing to August 4.
This summer we will kick-off this great summer event with a Family Fun night on July 7 as we introduce all the fun programs and encourage families to work together to solve some bookish mysteries and we will be serving up some tasty “letters”. Although you can register at the library starting June 14, registrations will also be taken that night. When boys and girls register they receive their free reading log and contest entries. Children and parents are encouraged to set their own reading goals for the summer. Many studies have shown that voluntary reading is the number one factor in establishing good literary skills in children. This is best accomplished when children can choose their own books and what better place to find a large variety of reading materials than at the public library.
Other programs planned this summer include a chance to “Savour the Magical Fruit” when everyone will have a “tootin” good time, an invitation to “Savour Every Bite” including some tasty “Just Believe Stew”, a visit to the water’s edge with “Savour a Cool, Tall Drink” and a visit from professional Storyteller, Tom McCormack with his “Words Sun Wild” show.
Drop in or call the public library to register for this fun and worthwhile free program.
