If a community member is experiencing flooding, call the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP). The RDOS emergency services team is on call 24/7 through PEP and it will ensure that the public is provided a timely response.
As you are most likely aware, all areas in BC are experiencing high water levels due to a higher than normal snow pack and unusual weather patterns. The water level in OK River is controlled by the Ministry of Natural Resource Operations (formerly MOE) water stewartship division. They are keeping the water flowing to mitigate the high water in Okanagan Lake.
If someone lives inside the 200 year flood plain, we are seeing unusual water seepage. As a precaution residents might consider moving water sensitive posessions from their basements to higher ground. If sandbags will assist through this difficult time, they are available at the Town of Oliver Public Works yard. If anyone is experiencing ground water seepage on their property, sandbags usually won’t help. If someone’s home, driveway or property is being threatened by this high water activity, please ask them to call PEP toll free at 1 800 663-3456.
